The Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga is committed to truly putting God first so that all people see the power of His Spirit moving in a living church where every person is a valued part of the Body of Christ, assisted through worship, education and service to experience life in its fullness.
What does this vision mean to us today?
The vision of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga expresses a deep commitment to place God at the centre of its life, witness, and mission. To truly put God first is more than a statement of belief; it is a call for the Church to order its worship, leadership, relationships, and service according to the will and purpose of God. It invites the Church to be shaped not by human ambition, institutional tradition, or cultural pride alone, but by the transforming presence of God’s Spirit.

At the heart of this vision is the desire for all people to see the power of the Holy Spirit moving within a living church. A living church is not simply an organisation with programmes, buildings, or structures. It is a spiritual community that bears witness to the life of Christ through faith, love, unity, holiness, compassion, and service. It is a church where the Spirit of God is active among the people, renewing hearts, strengthening families, guiding leaders, healing divisions, and empowering believers to serve both within the Church and beyond it.
The vision also affirms that every person is a valued part of the Body of Christ. This reflects the biblical truth that the Church is made up of many members, each with different gifts, responsibilities, and contributions. No one is insignificant in the household of God. Children, youth, elders, women, men, clergy, lay leaders, families, and communities all have a place and purpose in the life of the Church. When every person is valued, the Church becomes a place of belonging, encouragement, and shared responsibility.

Worship, education, and service are identified as key pathways through which people are assisted to grow and experience life in its fullness. Worship draws the Church closer to God and forms the spiritual life of the community. Education nurtures faith, wisdom, discipleship, and leadership for present and future generations. Service expresses the love of Christ in practical ways, reaching families, communities, and those in need. Together, these three dimensions shape a Church that is spiritually grounded, intellectually formed, and actively engaged in God’s mission.
This vision calls the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga to be faithful, Spirit-led, inclusive, and transformative. It challenges the Church to become a living witness of God’s grace, where people encounter Christ, discover their God-given worth, and participate meaningfully in the mission of the Church. In doing so, the Church does not only preserve its heritage, but also renews its calling to serve God’s people in Tonga, across the diaspora, and throughout the world.
