Intro. to the second edition

The Conference of 1948 decided to amend and rewrite the Constitution and the Laws of the Church. And that Conference established a Committee for those who were:

In January 1953, Prince Tungi, together with the President, the Secretary, Moulitoni Finau, Sione Filipe Tongilava, Afu Taumoepeau, and Manoa Havea, who had been invited by the President, were also asked to participate in the project.

The Secretary collated the decisions of the Conferences from 1924 – 1952, and the Committee submitted their work to the Conference that met on the 7th day of July, 1953. The Conference approved the work done by the Constitution Committee and requested that the Full Conference authorise the new Constitution. And at the Full Conference of 1954, they authorised it for use. (Refer to the Minutes Book of the Full Conference 1954 Q.6. p.15-19).

We certify to the effect that the law clauses that are contained in this Constitution are correct and approved in a ballot by the Conference of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga at Vava’u, 1953. And this was authorised by the Full Conference of 1954.

And I confirm on the 30th day of June, 1954.
